Anyways, thank you for the comment. The chest peice is half done. The color is going to be added once i get the cash to finish it. Plus the guy thats doing it is a two hour drive from where i live. But you know, nothing is too much for good art. I would rather travel 2 hours for something that i know will be great, then travel ten minutes just to get it done faster and cheaper.

Sorry you don't like the devil chick. It was just a piece i thought would work really well with the UV colors. That, and im agnostic, so devils don't really carry the same taboo for me that they do for you i'm guessing.

I will have more photos up of the rest of my peices soon, hopefully. so make sure to stop back and check those out.

I have had this tatt about two weeks from oen year atm, so I will test it under the black light later, and take some pictures of it. I'll post them here too, to show what it looks like after a year of healing. Hoepfully all is well, and it still looks as good as ever. Wish me luck.

So in closing, People get the U.V. Tattoo's because they find it interesting to them selves, in some form or another. hopefully, that is the main reason. Some people get them because they saw it on someone else and thought it was cool, or that it would make them cool. Hopefully that is not the answer. Overall, people get tattoos, U.V. or the normal everyday variety, mostly because they like them, or even better, the tattoo means something to them in particular.

As to why you don't get it, hopefully this helps you some. If it is still a no go, you still get it, but you just don't realize it. You don't get it, because you, yourself, do not understand, or like tattooing, and therefore, you won't get one.

Which overall answers your question, and millions of others also.

Freedom of choice. The will to make our own choices, and that we as a whole will make them in the long run, for our selves. It says something about us as a race, that nothing no mater what anybody thinks, can ever take away from us. We enjoy art, and love the beautiful. So black, white, Asian, Mexican, or the many other races out there, we will always have that one thing that brings us together and makes us the same. The love of branding ourselves with the beautiful art that will ultimately bring us together.

That actual purpose for the U.V. tattoo was originally as a time saver for those undergoing radiation therapy, for breast cancer, lung cancer, ect.. this practice was instituted to try and lessen the time needed to prepare these individuals for the treatments, by removing the daily application of markings. These markings were placed on the individual daily, so that when the X-Ray technician placed the radiation machines over the patient, they had an easier time of lining the machine up with the correct spots to me radiated.

This proved to be a daunting task, and an easier way was sought out. Tattooing proved to be the answer they were looking for. So they began using tattooing as the alternative they were looking for. The only problem they came across was that several of the patients would complain as the treatments were finally finished, due to the awkward looking X's and circles they now had permanently branded over random spot on their extremities.

After some more testing and trial and error, they finally came up with the solution they were looking for. Some tattoo artists began experimenting with inks, to try and make them black light sensitive, during that whole disco freak age. Several years later, and many, many test preformed by the scientific community, they finally came up with the pigment that is became the cancer patients new choice. That same pigment is still in use today.

Now after saying that very large mouthful, realize, that just because i said the government doctors now use it, that does not mean all U.V. ink you can get, is actually safe. In fact, 80 percent of it or so, actually are not safe. There is only a handful of inks that are actually F.D.A. approved, and they are rather pricey.

The glowing aspect of the tattoo, or any other blacklight type item, comes from the chemical inside of the tattoo, or item, ect, reacting to the refraction of the ultra violet rays being shown in the direction of said area.

So, no, it is not truely glow in the dark. It is, though, Ultra Violet Light Refractive.

As for "Why do people want them?" I can't answer for everyone, but I can say that my descision to permanently brand my self with a tattoo that is illuminated by an ultra violet conductor, such as a common everday blacklight, was done as a sort of "tribute" to a few things in my live, that i felt it was time to pay homage too. I won't go into details on the exact innfluences of my specific choice on that particular day, but I will mention that it is dear to my heart, and I don't regret getting it.

The addition of it being done in "Ultra Violet" pigment, instead of the normal everday plastique pigments, was a last minute addidtion, that the artist and myself decided would bring out a deeper more realistic feel in the work. It also wouldn't hurt that it would glow when shown in nightclubs, ect.

That being said, I don't recomend just going out and getting it done because you saw it on someone, and it looked very " Awsome!"

To get any form of body art, or modification because it looks cool on someone else, in my oppinion, is just stupid anyways. I believe that any time you get a piece of art such as tattooing, or body piercing, its should be thought out, and never should be an "impulse" thing.

Firstly, the Tattoos don't technically "Glow in the Dark." The reason the "glowing" effect happens, is due to a special pigment that is used i nthe tattoo process, instead of the normal plastique type pigments. This particular pigment has a special formula in it's ingriedients that allows it to illuminate when it comes in contact with the the rays with the Ultra Violet emissons of a standard everyday black light.
