Not sure Rog. I have only had the guns for about 6 weeks. I like what I've done so far but it is very hard to put a tattoo on my own leg. I would like to have someone do some work on.
I would like to get a half sleeve. I have done about six other tattoos which were really simple tribal type crap and a butterfly that didn't have a lot of detail but worked out okay.
I want todo a few more on my own body just sharpen my skills before attempting anything too elaborate. I wish that I could learn a little bit about shading. If anyone could help out please write me. I would love to apprentice under someone.
I have been drawing since I was a wee lad. I have done quite well with pencil portraits and want to cross over. Here is a link to an old page with some of my portraits and a painting of some Zebras if anyone has spare time to look. http://geocities.com/fordfinearts/1.html |

Thank you Sarah. Yes, I did to myself. I'm not a complete masochist I just want to learn and feel it is better to practice on myself so I overlook the pain. Being an artist I am always over critical of all things that I do and I look at the dragon and wish that I did this and that differently but it is a learning process and I am glad that I did it. I wanted to do a piece that had more detail.

I hate the way that I did the scales but we live and we learn.
The solid work is the hard part. I am working with a small outline needle that has a group of 5 instead of a shader needle with a larger number of needles so it is taking a little longer and isn't coming out as solid as it should. I ordered my kit from Technical Tattoo Supply in New York and have not been completely satisfied with the service they have given me and would like to find a new supplier. Can anyone help? |

Us shop fu**ers where doing this before it was cool, Heathan. I'm not busting your chop's here just thought this may bring some understanding to the table. It's kinda' like being a biker. Back in the day biker's where outcast, and looked down upon. Now everyone want's a chopper and a do rag. How do you think the old school bikers look at the "Main Stream"? It's the same thing, everyone wants to be a tattooist, and few have paid the due's. Those of us that paid the due's and paved the way for todays "main stream" get sick and tired of being put down by the unknowledgable. How much do you know about this industry? How many shop's have you worked in to the late hour's of the night. Desire does not make you right!!! Years of aquiring knowledge does. Us shop fu*kers know it all because we have been thru it all and seen it all. Not to mention when this law takes affect Nov. 1st you will have no chioce but to become a one of us, or face the fines for tattooing with out the proper permitt's and the 100k dollar bond required by law. Wise up people, and lose your uneducated rebellion. |

Scott, I do understand what you mean. I suppose that tattooing legallly is an entirely different situation. I am interested in being one of "you". I know that I am a great artist and have some amazing attention for detail. Right now I do work long hours it's just not in a tattoo parlor. I run a printing press and have done that for 12 years. I DON"T enjoy it but I do love that art of tattoing and think that I would rather sit behind a gun all day than do what I do for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. I understand that the bond is steep here but what about elsewhere? Is it like that in every state? Is it such a bad profession that no one should ever think that "hey, one day I would like to be a tattoo artist"! Well, for me I have not thought about that B.S. with the bond money and the fees and fines. All I know is that I like the feeling that I get when I am tattooing. I suppose I am probably wasting my time but I am happy that I spent the money that I have so far to be able to do a tattoo on my own body. I have enjoyed giving small tattoos to my friends and knowing that they will have that tattoo beyond the grave. |

I appreciate that Ink Spot. I really don't know that I am looking for an apprenticeship after all. I would like to do a little cleaning up or something for a shop just to be involved. But, most are quite territorial and most likely will not give a brother a break. If one was to do tattoos for a living they should not be penalized for having talent. One should be allowed to do it on their own but responsibly of course. I am still doing tattoos but just very selective about who I do. It's the friends and family plan. I think I will take my time and get plenty of practice before I make any decisions. |

Hey anyone see these new commercials popping up here in OK? I saw one last night and the shop looked like a dump and the few tattoos that were shown by artists of 16 years so it said were not real good. I think the tats I've done were better and I have only been doing them for 2 months. It is just sad that this is what will be expected now. I suppose the true artists WILL prevail. I am still hopeful that I might find someone to learn more from. Anyone out there? |

Thats because most of the shops in OKC are owned by the same people. They may have different names on the door but the same old biker trash money is behind most of them. Stay away from that crowd. And you are right about the true artist prevailing because when the real deal comes to town they will close one door after another. |

Hey Seford, I too am a starting artist. I also have problems with white ink. Sometimes it takes, sometimes it doesn't. I think alot of it depends on the brand of ink. If it is a good quality ink, even the white should take. I applaud you for having the guts to come on this website. They are crucial on here, and they don't hold anything back. I personally feel as though some of the artists on here are way too competitive and way to cocky. After all, all tattoo artists have a beginning point where they are learning..............Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!! |

Big Pimp - you can suck on some salty balls! What the f do you mean we don't know what a tattoo is supposed to look like? Why do you judge so? You f'n suck! I think that all of you judgemental f'n pricks can go lick some more ass! I think that it is time for tattooing to evolve yet again and I may just be the person to do just that. You wait and see. I have never been into a f'n tattoo parlor nor have I seen someone else give one. I have had pointers from people unlike your selfish ass who think that you fucks that have been doing it for some time. Thinking that you are some kind of "GURU"
I AM self taught. And I will be around for a long f'n time!

No prob big gimp. I did in fact do the tat. I am not sure who you think that you are but you need to work on the grammer. Try going back to high school and finish up there before you judge me. You did in fact hit the right nerve because I am a beginner and I have always been an artist. Call me a scratcher if you will but I will be better at tattooing within a year after picking up a gun than you will ever be. I have only been at it 4 months without any fucks like you showing me how it is supposed to be done. I did not come on here to judge anyone in the way that you have me but to learn and so far all that I have truely learned is that BIG PIMP is making an ass of himself for what?? Did you show that world how good you are by trashing me? Did you show the world how bad that I am by talking trash? No you did not. How about you post a link so that we can all see how amazing you are? I will sit here and wait for I will not be able to do anything else, especially tattoos, until I see exactly what a tattoo looks like from your fucking portfolio. I would like to talk to you so I may just have to waste my time at the expo where people rush in to get your amazing tattoos. It is cool though. Just remember what I told you about exactly how long I have been tattooing and that one day I WILL be better than you! Now get that ass back in school and learn to spell before you come back here talking all that bull shit! |

Tell me more inkspotta2. This truely is my work. I do appreciate the comment. I have always been a very didicated artist and just love the feeling I get doint tattoos. I am self trained other than what a select few have told me. I wish I new more people in the industry. I have the best work ethic and when I do something, I do it more than 100%. I am not concieted. I just have a passion for art and all aspects of the tattooist. I have worked as a printing press operator for over 12 years. I know machines and have a way of become so in tune with things that I do. I set a page that has more pics of my artwork for those that have the time.

Some of shops in Oklahoma should close the doors and hang it up. I have worked all over the US and and have been permitted 4 states. Every where I go I see hack shops. Not just in Oklahoma but evrwhere. I bet money you feel the same way about some other studio in your own town.
Point is.....The true talent will always be around no matter how many rich FUX"S try to corpratize the indusrty. Good luck closing these doors.
I will make millions a different way. Tattoo school? Why dont you line the pockets of the zoning commision to zone all tattoo shop's in one single sky scrapper down town. You can have the top floor and pent house.
You make me sick and have no respect in my house. |

Hey Seford, let me tell you a thing or two about the artist that you claim that you saw on tv that had 16 years of experience and whose work looked like sh*t. That man does not have 16years of experience in OKLAHOMA but 16 years experience in DALLAS and FLORIDA. Those pictures you see on the tv are not ALL OF HIS!!!!! And you think that shop looks like sh*t? I can think of at least a DOZEN in Tulsa that are 10 X WORSE than that. Even the HEALTH INSPECTOR said that's the CLEANIST SHOP in GREEN COUNTRY and he inspects THEM ALL in Tulsa and ALL SURROUNDING COUNTIES!!!!!!!!! Learn what you're talking about before you put it in WRITING you stupid F*CK!!!!!!!!That's why noone will apprentice you!!!! You are an ARROGANT SCRATCHER who DOESN"T HAVE A CLUE what you are DOING!!!!!!!! To get that, you must learn from someone WITH EXPERIENCE. Try it, you might actually produce ACCEPTABLE WORK, and quit sending your customers to REAL ARTISTS to fix your F*CK UPS!!!!!!!!! Oh yea, FYI they are ALREADY LICENSED AND SO IS THAT ARTIST YOU WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT!!!!!!! ONE OF THE FIRST IN THIS STATE AND ALSO HOLDS A CURRENT LICENSE IN TWO OTHER STATES!!!!!!!! NOW WHAT??????? |

Wow Ariel. How do you know which shop I was referring to when I posted the comment? I have not asked to apprentice under anyone and when I do I am sure I won't have ny problems. I am not arrogant just confident. The shop was a dump and I am sure it still is. They could have at least shown some tallent when they painted the crappy sign that is dispayed outside the shop. I mean come on. It isn't that hard to come up with something instead of what they are using for store front signage. Maybe you and I am not talking about the same one. Remember, the one that I am referring to looked crappy on a commercial. So, if there are shops that are 10 times worse than that then shit. There is a serious problem here in ole T-town. The health department needs to start shutting some down. As I stated in one of the earlier posts. I only came here to learn and people like you continue to school me and school me well. Wow, I should stop scratching. I must really suck! The people I give tattoos to are friends and family and I don't see any of them getting anything corrected. I'm not trying to piss anyone off. I only state the facts as I see them. My opinions are only coming from me and I know enough that I can say THE SHOP DID SUCK AND IS PROBABLY STILL SUCKING! So sorry to offend. I don't intentionally try to pick a fight with anyone but I am finding out real quick that there are some pretty shitty people out there that want to bring a man down. That is so sad! |
