If you know anything at all about Maori tattoo culture you will know that this piece is not Ta moko, but Kirituhi. Now for the lesson! This guy does not have to clear anything with a Moari elders cos it aint Ta moko. A Pakeha (pale face) can wear Kirituhi as the style was specifically designed by the Moari for non Moari cultures. By doing this they could protect heritage and identity of their culture.

To add, the tattoo would only be Ta moko if it had been applied by a Maori master artist with the blessing and acceptance of the community. Therefore, giving the tattoo true meaning of what is Ta moko.

Hope this clears things up a little.
