moyana, i acknowledge your point that racism was intertwined with all forms of government during the period when the confederate flag originated (and i would contend that it still is). however, that doesn't change the fact that the flag has been heavily used since then by white supremacists and other hate groups. southerners should be able to celebrate the many laudable aspects of their history, absolutely, but it has to be done without perpetuating symbols of racism, not to mention misogyny and homophobia.

In another note:
I wish people would become more educated past the first grade. The Confederate was not a symbol of a racist government. For that time period, all U.S. government was racist. The Confederate flag is as much as a symbol as any state flag. Only to represent an area. To become re-educate, consult you're nearest southerner.
