I got this tattoo to honor my cultural/familial heritage and values. My family name is spelled in baybayin (aka. 'alibata') sanskrit along the back of the upper shark. The 'la' syllable of my last name is within the form of a manta ray. I also incorporated polynesian symbols -- fish hooks, shark teeth, dagger -- as well as elements from the sea.
