Body piercing jewelry includes many different styles that are all specially designed for a specific part of the body when it is first pierced.  Each piece of body jewelry ranges in size, composition, style, and price, depending on where the piece of jewelry will go, what style the person wants, and their sensitivity level to certain types of materials.

When first piercing any part of the body, high quality types of piercing jewelry must be worn.  Titanium, surgical stainless steel, and gold are the recommended types of jewelry because they contain little or no nickel, which is one element that can cause infection and/or sensitivity in a new piercing.  Costume jewelry, silver, lower-grade gold, and other metals are not safe to use on fresh piercings.  Jewelry made of a higher grade material will always work better to prevent infection.

Once the piercing has completely healed, other materials can be used to create a fashionable appearance.  Commonly used in body jewelry are acrylic, glass, onyx, amethyst, obsidian, sterling silver, chalcedony, quartz, and agate.

Some of the popular styles of body piercing jewelry include various bead rings, seamless rings, barbells, captive tubes, and eyelets.  Again, the type of style you get will depend on the location of your new piercing and your specific build and sensitivity.  Check with your professional piercing artist to find out what style would suit you best.
