Ear Piercings

Ear piercings are prevalent today in both males and females of all ages.  It is just as normal to pierce the ears of a girl as it is an infant or a twenty five year old man.

Ear piercings have been around through various societies beginning thousands of years ago.  The first known piercing was found in a frozen mummified body dating back five thousand years ago.  Because his holes were stretched out, it has been presumed that the purpose of these piercings was to fill them with thick metals to ward off evil spirits and bad luck.  During these ancient times, they believed that metals through the body prevented evil from entering.  As time moved on, the purpose of ear piercings changed.  They came to signify wealth and success.  Royalty and those considered to be in high society would wear gold and expensive jewels in their ears to display their wealth.

Ear piercing refers to the specific part of the ear, the earlobe.  Other parts of the ear are becoming increasingly popular to pierce as well.  Some of the terms used to describe the various parts of the ear being pierced are the cartilage, rook, daith, conch, and tragus.

Today, it doesn’t matter if you are a schoolgirl, a celebrity, a mummy, or a king; earring piercing is the thing to do.  For casual and professional lifestyles, for laid-back and formal events, ear piercings are important to complete the ensemble.
