The original meaning of a swallow tattoo signifies 10 years completed at sea for sailors. It was also believed if a sailor had these birds tattooed and he were to drown at sea, the swallows would lift his soul to heaven. Mine is holding a paintbrush to symbolize my completion of college as an Art Major and painter; a long journey beginning my life.
