Cat Tattoos

Modern day cat tattoos typically illustrate a domestic cat (often similar to the person’s pet.)  Pet cats are most often described as playful, independent, and cuddly, yet distant and unapproachable, at times.  Many cat owners love their sense of mystery, which is another trait cats have that has sparked some decisions for getting cat tattoos.  The element of mystery added to any tattoo will often spark interest in the subject.

The symbolism of the cat will depend on where you are in the world and what species of cat is being referred to.  In Egypt, cats were worshipped just like Gods, and seen as sacred, protective, divine creatures.  In Japan, cats are bad luck; in Africa, they are associated with psychic and spiritualist principles; and in Ancient Greece and Rome, the cat was believed to have come from the goddess of liberty.

Mystery, supernatural powers, and luck are a few characteristics of a cat (whether they are true or mythical) that cannot be escaped.  The black cat is famous for causing bad luck to strike on anyone who crosses its path.  While this may be mere superstition, many still believe in it today and avoid black cats, as well as black cat tattoos at all costs.

On the other hand, cats are good luck in other countries.  Their nine lives are thought to bring along good fortune because of the lucky nature of the number nine.  There are an abundance of cat characteristics, many of which contrast one another.  If you love cats and are interested in cat tattoos, there are certain to be some symbolisms and explanations that you can relate to and find interesting.
