Dragonfly Tattoos
Dragonfly tattoos are one of the most popular animal tattoos available. Once seen as devilish animals sent to the Earth by Satan, today these tats are a fashionable way to visually embrace the delicate and mysterious aspects of this unusual and beautiful animal.
Dragonfly tattoos may be popular today, but for many years dragonflies were condemned and revolted in the West. For much of the last millennium dragonflies were considered to be ‘witch animals’ and were exterminated wherever possible. In America during the last few centuries, dragonflies were believed to have the power to stitch the eyes and mouths shut of sleeping children. (More motivation for children to not fall asleep, I suppose.)
Today dragonfly tattoos represent more of the Eastern world’s attitude toward this misunderstood animal. In Japan, the dragonfly is seen as an emblem for strength and happiness and is often used as an important cultural symbol. (Akitsushmi—which means Dragonfly Island, is an alternative name for Japan.)
Dragonfly tattoos, unlike other animal tattoos, do not have a huge amount of different design choices. They can be modified to become
tribal tattoos or even
Japanese tattoos, but for the most part dragonfly tattoos seem to have a consistent image that is tailored to suit the tastes of the individual wearing it.
Dragonfly tattoos are not an exceedingly difficult tattoo to do, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek out a qualified tattoo artist to do yours. There are nearly as many bad ones as there are a good ones, and when it comes to something you’ll have on your body forever, isn’t it a good idea to take the time to make sure your tattoo comes out exactly the way that you want it.
