Star tattoos have been one of the most requested tattoos for years. There are an abundance of varied styles, as well as a range of meanings that these popular designs hold, making each one different and personal.

The most commonly known symbol of the star is light. Stars are bright balls of energy in the sky that brighten up the night, often associated with dreams, hopes, and sources of inspiration. The positive association that stars have with light is a great factor in how many people are getting stars tattooed over their bodies.

To some, stars have deeper symbolisms, representing the souls of loved ones that they have lost. In these cases, the star is a source of support and comfort in knowing that their loved ones are in a better place looking down over them.

There are too many styles and variations of the star tattoo to list. The most popular star tattoos usually include the five pointed star with great shafts of light exuding from the tips. Almost all star tattoos have the bright yellow light coming from some part of the image, if not filling it entirely. Aside from the general five-pointed star tattoo, other popular variations include the starfish, representing life throughout the open sea, the Star of David, representing Judaism, and replications of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.”

Many people have said that a star tattoo is ideal because it can always be added to, spiced up, or changed in a variety of ways if you should grow tired of the original design. The basic formation is so simple that it allows for creativity to add to the image in many ways, often placing images inside the star’s outline or making the star part of an abstract creation or entire scene.
