Cartoon Tattoos

There are hundreds of diverse cartoon tattoos.  From real cartoon characters, such as Winnie the Pooh, Bart Simpson, Tinker Bell, and Mickey Mouse to “old school” cartoon-style tattoos with their heavy outlines and bold designs, cartoon tattoos are still popular today.

However, for tattoo enthusiasts around the country, “cartoon tattoos” no longer refer to Disney characters and black outlines.  In the past several years “cartoon tattoos” have more often been linked to the artistic creations of Mister Cartoon, Los Angeles’ most popular and admired tattoo artist.

Mark Machado calls himself Mr. Cartoon.  His studio is located in LA, convenient to all of the musicians and stars who visit him to get tattooed.  Cartoon’s work has a certain style that is unique to him.  His tattoos are famous for their use of black and gray, while his designs are impressively detailed unlike the work of most tattoo artists.  He says his inspirations derive from prison inmates who would tattoo each other with rough images using only the colors they could find: black and watered-down black, which essentially was gray.

Experts are most impressed by the complexity of Mr. Cartoon’s tattoos.  They almost appear to be photography, with his gothic lettering and the strong sense of dimension and shadowing that is most difficult to achieve with a tattoo gun.  When Eminem stepped into his studio for a tattoo, and then began showing them off in front of millions, Mr. Cartoon began to gain recognition.  This is when other musicians followed in getting his designs, such as Method Man, Beyonce Knowles, Justin Timberlake, and Travis Parker.  He was already named as the most expensive tattoo artist in the industry, and his success is still rising, as LA debutantes and stars schedule appointments with the talented Mister Cartoon.
