Celebrity Tattoos

Celebrities are icons in the world of fashion. They are the ones who set the trends, advertise these trends, and convince their fans to do the same. This is not a difficult task. If Britney Spears showed up to perform at one of her concerts wearing a trash bag…. the very next day, I would not be surprised, if some Britney fans were wearing trash bags as well. In fact, brand names would probably start manufacturing wearable trash bags only one month later and selling them for a pretty penny. Celebrity tattoos are no exception to the rule that fans follow the trends of their favorite celebrities.

It was not until the 1980’s that musicians and rock stars began to set a trend with celebrity tattoos. Although they may not have been aware that they were setting a trend, it is when celebrities began to get tattooed that the entire tattoo industry began its ascent.

Through interviews, music videos, magazines, and album covers over the last twenty five years, celebrities have managed to cover the media with their punk/trendy lifestyles. And because fans are known for their loyalty, it doesn’t take much more than reading a magazine article with a picture of their favorite celebrity with a tattoo, to make fans want to run out and get their own tattoos.

The small star tattoo seems to be the most popular tattoo amongst the “stars.” Mostly small in size and located either on the hand, inside of the wrist, back, or ankle, celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Anna Kournikova, and Ashlee Simpson are sporting the star celebrity tattoos today.
