Characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White, and Tinker Bell are famous icons of Disney. Their claim to fame comes from the vast variety of Disney books, Disney movies, and other Disney paraphernalia. Now Disney tattoos are beginning to get credit for some of their fame. It is not uncommon for a fan to get a Disney tattoo, such as fantasia Mickey, Goofy riding a bike, or any other favorite characters. However, there is one man that has made quite a name for himself as the “Disney Tattoo Man.” His name is George C. Reiger Jr., and he has over seventeen hundred Disney tattoos covering his body, with the exception of his face and hands. He has had over five hundred interviews both nationally and internationally on television, in addition to many newspaper, magazine, and radio interviews. The fame this man has created for himself has also struck attention to the Disney characters and the company of Disney as a whole. Many extreme Disney fans, Reiger included, have said that Disney offers them a chance to relive their childhood fantasies. Many also stated that they came from broken homes and that television, mainly Disney programs, is what really raised them. As adults, they are just keeping in touch with their childhood. Disney tattoos are one way they feel they can show their devotion to the company and the characters. Disney has always been a way to escape from reality. Whether it was going on vacation to Disneyworld to “get away from it all,” watching a Disney movie and getting lost in the fantasy of it, or playing a Disney game, Disney will always work its magic to provide escapism. Getting Disney tattoos offers the sense of fantasy and escapism that you can take with you wherever you go.
