Irish Tattoos

Irish tattoos are amongst the most popular forms of body art today because of the lively Irish culture that everyone admires.  Various Celtic, shamrock, and leprechaun tattoos include the most popular Irish tattoo styles around. 

The Celtic harp is the official emblem of Ireland.  It appears on the presidential flag, uniforms, currency, state steals, and Irish tattoos!  The image of the Celtic, or Gaelic harp has been around since the 12th century, and during the 16th century, King Henry VIII decided to institute it as the official emblem of Ireland.  Many true Irish men and women have great pride in the Celtic harp as their national emblem, especially since it is the only country in the world to have a musical instrument as their emblem (illustrating the importance of music in their culture.)  
 
Although the Celtic harp is the actual official symbol of Ireland, the shamrock is the most universally known symbol for Ireland.  For most people, the first thing they think of when they hear Irish tattoo, is an image of the shamrock and the festivities of St. Patrick’s Day.  The shamrock has come to represent the beautiful country and people of Ireland, as well as the legend of St. Patrick, who devoted his entire life to setting up schools, churches, and monasteries so that people could learn and pray-this was also an attempt to convert Pagans into Christians.  The shamrock is the presumed symbol of how he explained Christianity to the Irish people.  When he died, on March 17, AD 461, his legend lived on and his efforts are still celebrated during festive celebrations filled with shamrocks, leprechauns, and green beer every year on March 17th.   

Celtic designs are another type of Irish tattoos that have become more than popular today.  With its intricate knots, interlacing patterns, and stylized images, the Celtic designs have a beautiful appearance, while also conveying important feelings and ideas.
