Patriotic Tattoos

Patriotic tattoos have always been an established theme amongst those with body art.  Tattoos of the American flag, the statue of liberty, the American eagle, army tattoos, outlines of the USA, important bridges and buildings throughout our homeland, and slogans showing patriotism are some of the most common patriotic tattoos over the past several decades.

The number of people getting patriotic tattoos was never as high as it was during the months that followed September 11, 2001.  The visible patriotism took place on many different levels as our country united and worked together to get through the horrible tragedies that took place on that Tuesday morning.  Tattoo parlors everywhere in the country were jam packed with requests for American flags, eagles, and mottos like “United We Stand,” “These Colors Don’t Run,” and “Home of the Brave” in efforts to support our country.

Why are patriotic tattoos so popular?  Many of those that choose to get patriotic tattoos say that they are doing so to support the values of America.  The United States began and maintains the moral beliefs of freedom and human rights.  We are proud to allow freedom of speech and encourage that all men are created equal, regardless of their race, sex, religion, or color.  The freedom that America offers is what makes the country so beautiful and also what makes its citizens want to go out and get patriotic tattoos!

Patriotism tends to go through cycles.  While patriotic tattoos and apparel and hanging American flags are popular trends during war and attack, they are often forgotten during times of stability.  Tattoos are permanent, and the act of getting a patriotic tattoo instills your patriotism always.
