Flower tattoos are popular because of their beauty, ability to be personalized, and association with nature.  Most commonly, the flower tattoo is feminine, whether its natural and realistic- looking, abstract, or adapted to suit personal preferences in other ways.  Flowers are perfect as a tattoo image because they are associated with life, color, pleasant scents, and special sentiments.  Each type of flower is associated with its own symbolism.  To most people, all flowers, in general, represent thoughtfulness and affection.  However, each type of flower has its own, more specific meaning, derived from ancient mythology, through Victorian times, and various other cultures and traditions.

Colors are a big part of the symbolism within flowers.  For example, the rose may mean love, however if the rose is burgundy, then it actually stands for unconscious beauty.  If the rose is yellow, it signifies a decrease of love, and if the rose is red and white it means unity.  Colors can be a powerful indication of meaning and representation.

Many types of flowers often will represent some kind of beauty.  For example, the amaryllis, alyssum, calla, white camellia, burgundy rose, and stock flowers all mean the same thing-beauty.  Hibiscus also stands for beauty, but in a delicate way, while honeysuckle represents a more rustic type of beauty.  Of course many people feel that all flowers represent the beauty and growth that they hold.

Some other popular flower tattoos are sunflowers, which represent adoration; daffodils, symbolizing regard; daisies, which represent innocence; jasmine, representing amiability; lilacs, symbolizing first love; white lilies, which mean purity and sweetness; lotus flowers, meaning estranged love; and magnolia flowers, referring to the love of nature.
