Angel Tattoos

It’s kind of funny to see someone getting a tattoo of an angel.  Tattoos, that badass fashion statement, and angels, the benevolent protectors of mankind, combined into one image…Angel tattoos.

Angels were first mentioned in the Bible and were known as being messengers from God.  The variety of tasks that angels would perform to help mankind ranged from bringing messages to humans from God, protecting, rescuing, and simply looking after people in need.  When the Latin word “angel” was adapted into the English language, its meaning was of any supernatural being that had benevolent traits.

To the common mind, angels are these saviors sent from God to help people in need of some guidance or assistance.  Depending on one’s beliefs, culture, traditions, and mindset, angels can be associated with various characteristics.  Many associate angels with the color white, representing purity, and with the world above us.  Others think of divine nymphs and sensual harmony when angels are mentioned.  Some think of death, others think of spirits, some think of fulfillment and sex, while others picture heightened levels of enlightenment.  Magic, guidance, protection, spirituality, cherubs, and, of course, satan, are all possible things that come to the minds of various individuals when the word “angel” is invoked.

Today, angel tattoos have become extremely popular among females, in particular.  Whether they feel that the angel tattoo is their personal guardian angel protecting them, they are getting more in touch with their religious side, or they just like the way angels look.  Whatever the reason-angels are showing up a lot in local tattoo parlors recently.
