Neck Tattoo FAQ
A neck tattoo can be one of the most visually interesting tats available. But as one of the most visible tattoos, a neck tattoo does require a special commitment well above other forms of
body art. Here we try to answer some of the more common questions people have about the often misunderstood form of body art.
Neck Tattoo FAQ #1: Do they hurt?
Well, a neck tattoo’s level of hurt depends on the individual. But as tats go they are slightly more uncomfortable than others—at least in the outline phase. This is because there isn’t very much muscle between the needle and the bone.
But most people describe the discomfort of a neck tattoo as more of a dull vibration than anything else. And even with touch-ups they are hardly as painful as some other areas of the body, such as foot tattoos and hand tattoos.
Neck Tattoo FAQ #2: How long do neck tattoos take to heal?
Well tattoos usually take 2-3 weeks to heal, but neck tattoos can sometimes take a bit longer. This is because these kinds of tattoos scab rather quickly due to the motion created by the movement of the head. For this same reason, a neck tattoo will often need re-ink sessions to clean up some of the patchiness caused by head motion. These re-ink sessions are much less uncomfortable than the outline phase and take little time to do.
But unlike other tats in somewhat unorthodox
areas of the body, like hand, foot, or genital tattoos, a neck tattoo has a rather low rate of infection. With general precautions the only thing to really worry about with is sun exposure. Most tattoos are easily covered up with clothing, but a neck tattoo is often the most visible tattoo there is. Therefore it is important to always remember to apply sunscreen to keep the ink from fading.
