Tattoo Lettering

Tattoo lettering is getting increasingly popular today, with the greater variety of fonts and the increase of interest for tattoo lettering in various languages, such as Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish.  Old English, Celtic, tribal, and modern styles of tattoo lettering are the most common.

Old English lettering was made famous by many celebrities, including Eminem and David Beckman.  Mister Cartoon, the most successful tattoo artist in the country, does Old English lettering as his specialty,
and he has certainly been a big part of the reason why this style of tattoo lettering has become so popular today.  The letters are boxy, the color is almost always black, and it has a gothic feel to it.

Tribal tattoo lettering is characterized by bold black lines, sharp points, various patterns, and dense curves.  Celtic lettering is smoother, utilizing the Celtic knots that have no beginning or ending.

Chinese characters are used in tattoos now more than ever before. People seem to love the beautiful look of the characters, available in many different fonts and styles, while also appreciating the concepts and ideas behind the Chinese characters.

Getting tattoo lettering is generally a more clearly stated tattoo than an image.  A word, phrase, or name conveys quite a bit to the person looking at the tattoo.  The location can also add meaning to the tattoo.  If a person gets the word "sinner" tattooed in the genital region, it conveys something different than if that same word were on any other part of the body-it adds a sexual connotation to the tattoo.

Names have always been a popular tattoo.  Names of daughters, sons, parents, those we have lost, girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, and wives have always been a common tattoo.  However, it has been noted that for every name tattooed, two are requested to be covered up.  So before you get a tattoo of the love of your life, think about how long it will be with you.
