The healing process begins immediately following the completion of a tattoo, and it is a highly crucial time for all new tattoos. It is of utmost importance to follow all steps recommended for tattoo care in the beginning hours and weeks, and of course, remember to wash your hands thoroughly before coming into contact with your new tattoo, as it is a wound that needs to heal properly. Directly after you receive your new tattoo, you must be certain to remove the bandage and wipe away all oozing fluids that appear on or around the new tattoo. Because it is strongly suggested to wipe away all oozing fluids around the tattoo for the first day, this may mean that you are diligently wiping the area every few minutes, but it is an important step in tattoo care to prevent dead cells, infection, and ink loss. Applying ointment, such as A&D or Neosporin will often speed up the healing process. Therefore, it is recommended to apply the ointment frequently in the beginning. After the application, wait fifteen minutes and then check the area for bubbles of fluid. If you see any oozing or apparent fluid, wipe it away, reapply the ointment, and repeat this until the fluid no longer surfaces. A thin layer of ointment should be applied at least several times a day. After the first several days, you can begin using a moisturizing lotion in place of the ointment. To prevent complications, avoid picking, peeling, scratching, and shaving the area in and around the location of the new tattoo. Coming in contact with other people or animals, swimming, and using the sauna and Jacuzzi should also be avoided. And steer clear of getting the tattoo surface wet, even during showers. If all recommended steps are taken during those crucial days that follow the arrival of your new tattoo, your healing time should be short and sweet. And always remember how important the role of tattoo care is in the healing of your tattoo. |
