Henna Tattoos

Henna tattoos provide the awesome appearance that tattoos have, without the permanency factor.  The ink comes from the dried leaves of the Henna plant.  After the dried leaves have been crushed and turned into a powder-like substance, a paste is then made and applied to the skin.  When this ink dries, it will look black in color.  It is recommended that this henna ink is left on the skin for between four and twelve hours to get the best results.  There are a variety of different types of henna, however the most popular is Moroccan henna, which provides the best colors.   When the Moroccan henna is removed, the tattoo will be revealed in an orange-red color; and within a day or two the color will darken into more of a rust or brown color.

Henna has a variety of different uses and symbolisms, depending on the culture.  In some cultures, henna was used for medicinal purposes.  It worked as a cooling agent for the sick with a high fever.  Others believed that it worked to enforce power and protection.  In many Middle Eastern and North African countries, henna was believed to promote good luck and fertility.  In India, henna was used to teach an important lesson.  It would be applied on the brides just before marriage, to teach her patience.  Because the manner in which applying henna requires much patience, it would force the brides to learn this virtue right before their marriage.

Henna tattoos have come to be a popular trend today.  Tattoos, in general, are getting more popular, however many people do not want the commitment of having a permanent tattoo, making henna tattoos the perfect alternative.
