Flash Tattoo Versus Custom
Flash tattoos refers to the pre-drawn tattoo designs that you find on tattoo websites, the walls of tattoo parlors, and portfolios of their respective artists. Some hard-core tat customers resist the ‘cookie-cutter’ nature of a flash tattoo, but a flash tattoo has a lot going for it. Here we detail some of the key advantages in
choosing a flash tattoo over a custom design.
Flash Tattoo Advantage #1: It’s all about the Mula
I know. You don’t let money affect your decisions. But some of us believe paying $60/hr for a tattoo design seems a bit high. Custom tattoos are expensive because they take time. Time for the tat artist to draw…and maybe even time for him/her to worry about how the hell they’re going to pull off your celtic/tribal/mythical hybrid.
The going rate for a flash tattoo is about $30/hr, although this can vary. Still this can be quite a bonus on your 4th or 5th session when the bill for your dragon forearm tattoo starts to get a little high. If price is an issue---a flash tattoo is really the only way to go.
Flash Tattoo Advantage #2: You know what it’s going to look like. (Hopefully)
This may sound like a trivial thing-- but looking at flash tattoos will give you a reasonable expectation for what that tat will actually look like. This isn’t always the case with a custom job.
One important thing though is to make sure the flash tattoo you are looking at was actually done by an in-house artist---and not some outside artist or company. Or if you’re getting it off the internet, which is a great cost-effective way to go, just make sure you see something in your tattoo artists’ portfolio that tells you they have experience in the style and tone of your design.
Flash Tattoo Advantage #3: You can add…or subtract
Just because it’s a flash tattoo doesn’t mean that you don’t have a say in what it’s going to look like. Most reputable tattoo artists will be happy to adjust or modify the flash design to your tastes. And usually at a much discounted rate over a custom tattoo.
So as you can see a flash tattoo can be the way to go. It doesn’t have to be boring and ‘cookie-cutter.’ You can get what you want in an affordable way that will make you look good—and your wallet feel good.
